POLITICS: Round one to Dilma…

On 16 February, following a lengthy session of over ten hours, the federal congress voted for the government's minimum wage increase for 2011, rejecting a bigger increase proposed by the centrist and right-wing opposition. The lower chamber vote was President Dilma Rousseff's first congressional set piece. She won decisively, by 321 votes to 120, with 11 abstentions.
